Handling and Ergonomics 9/10
The Fujifilm X-Pro2 is arguably one the most ergonomic digital cameras in the market as of January 2024. Holding it feels so natural, your hand and fingers naturally fall into the right places. It isn’t a light or heavy camera; it just feels and weighs just right.

Battery Life 7/10
Unfortunately, the X-Pro2’s battery life isn’t great. The NP-126S battery is old and needed a refresh, a new battery was designed for newer Fujifilm cameras but is not compatible nor does it fit in the X-Pro2. I could get about 200 shots out of a single battery if I am lucky. That being said the batteries are small, and it is easy to carry a couple of extras in your pocket, furthermore they are inexpensive, unlike Leica batteries, and are easily available in the market.

Image Quality 8.5/10
As with any camera, image quality depends on camera and lens combination, using the 23mm/35mm/50mm f/2 Fujinon Aspherical lenses, image quality is excellent, and very pleasing to the eye. Those f2 lenses are very small and very well built. This camera/lens combination yields to excellent image quality. I also used the excellent aspherical Fujinon 35mm f/1.4 and 56 f/1.2 for portraits. A great surprise is the inexpensive 18-55 Kit lens, which yields excellent quality photos. The reason why I am mentioning all these lenses is because they truly are superb and are a great fit with the X-Pro2 body. At higher ISO settings images are very good and very acceptable, however anything above 3200 yields to color degradation. Black and white photos will still look excellent up to about ISO 6400. Above that there is severe image degradation. I must note that I never used the camera above ISO 2000, unless to do testing.

Focusing 7/10
Focusing with this camera is a bit slow with some lenses, such as with the 35mm f/1.4 or 56mm f/1.2. It is much snappier with the 23/35/50mm f/2. That being said the contrast-based autofocus is slower than more modern phase detection sensors found in the X-Pro3, or other more modern cameras. I used the X-Pro2 in a modeling photoshoot, and photojournalism, I did miss a couple of shots during fast moving moments, but all in all I got the shots that I wanted thanks to the 8fps shooting speed. Auto-focus does eye and face detection, and it works pretty well, again not as good as on more modern cameras.

Video/Audio Recording 7/10

Who Is This Camera For?
Street photography and photojournalism come to mind, the X-Pro2 is weather sealed, fast to operate, and is stealthy without any logos. The shutter sound is fairly quiet, it sounds like a muffled film camera shutter. The X-Pro2 can also be used for landscape, portrait, or virtually any type of photography, except for birds in flight due to the limited contrast-based auto focus (as opposed to phase detection auto focus), the X-Pro2 does not have IBIS which limits some photography scenarios, however, there are some really Fujinon lenses which do have image stabilizations, such as the 18-55mm f/2.8-4.0, the 16-80mm f/4, 10-24mm f/4.

Recommended Lenses
Fujinon lenses are all very good to excellent, to stellar. There are only two or three lenses which are average. Any of these lenses are at least excellent.
Landscape: Fujinon 16-80 f/4 or 100-200 f/5.6
Sports and Wildlife: Fujinon XF100-400mm F4.5-5.6
Portrait: Fujinon 56 f/1.2 or 35 f/1.4
Street and Photojournalism: Fujinon 23 f/2 or 18 f/2 or 50 f/2 or 35 f/2

Final Verdict
The X-Pro2 was an excellent camera when it was first released, and it is still an excellent camera in 2024, it has a large cult following, and for good reason. Many photographers prefer it over the X-Pro3. Images are sharp and clear, and operating the cameras is a real joy. It feels like a very modern and fast film camera. When you hold the X-Pro2 it makes you feel like a photographer with a purpose, a photographer who makes photos, rather than one taking photos.
